Description: This is a feature class that contains historic landmarks that are within the City of Alexandria. This dataset is a collection of locally gathered information from the Historic Preservation group, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and National Historic Landmark database. Additional information can be obtained from the COA Department of Historic Preservation and COA ITS-GIS Divsion.
Description: In the Spring of 2019, the Office of Historic preservation undertook a survey to determine early and late buildings in the Old and Historic District and the Parker Gray Districts. The buildings were used to determine the sidewalk restoration. If the predominate buildings were determined to be “early” (existing and present on the 1931 Sanborn Fire Insurance map) then the sidewalk is considered on an “early blockface brick”. Block determined to be late or those considered to architecturally significant have the designation of “late blockface brick”. In some case concrete has been used and is designated as “late blockface concrete”. This feature class is used in conjunction with the Early Late Buildings feature class which is used to support the complete streets initiative.

Description: In the Spring of 2019, the Office of Historic preservation undertook a survey to determine early and late buildings in the Old and Historic District and the Parker Gray Districts. The buildings were determined to be “early” if they were still existing and present on the 1931 Sanborn Fire Insurance map. All other buildings in the districts are of later construction and designated as “late”. This determination is used in conjunction with the Historic Sidewalk feature class which is used to support the complete streets initiative.
